KROK 1 2013 – Question 3 · KROK (Medicine) · Biological Chemistry
Pterin derivatives (aminopterin and methotrexate) are the inhibitors of dihydrofolate reductase, so that they inhibit the regeneration of tetrahydrofolic acid from dihydrofolate. These drugs inhibit the intermolecular tranfer of monocarbon groups, thus suppressing the synthesis of the following polymer:
- A. Glycosaminoglycans
- B. Homopolysaccharides
- C. DNA
- D. Gangliosides
- E. Protein
Hint
Think about what the products of folate-dependent one-carbon transfer are used for, and which polymer's building blocks depend on them most in dividing cells.
The answer, the explanation and a note on every option are available once you log in. The account is free: topic tests, a mock exam, mistake review and statistics.
