What we look at when choosing a university

A university chosen for you, not picked from a brochure There is no single best university for everyone. We compare a few options against your grades, budget, languages and career plans, and then tell you honestly where you have a real chance.
  • Diploma recognition

Whether the diploma will be recognised where you want to work: in Poland, elsewhere in the EU or outside it.

  • Listing in the World Directory of Medical Schools

We check that the school is listed in the global directory of medical schools. ECFMG, among others, requires this before the USMLE exams.

  • Language of instruction

Whether the programme is taught in English or the local language, and what language level you need to show when applying.

  • Admission rules

Entrance exam, interview, school grades or final exam results, plus deadlines that are often earlier than you might expect.

  • Clinical training

When contact with patients begins, in which hospitals, and in what language bedside teaching takes place.

  • Tuition and living costs

Tuition, extra fees, housing and living costs for the whole degree, not just the first year.

    Support during your studies

We stay with you: you study for exams on our platform, and towards the end of your degree we help you plan a return home or a job abroad.

A foreign diploma and working in the EU and beyond

A university in the European Union

Medical and dental diplomas from EU and EEA countries that meet Directive 2005/36/EC are recognised automatically in all of these countries. The licence to practise is issued by the authority or chamber of the country where you want to work.

Before you choose a university, we check that its diploma meets these conditions.

A university outside the European Union

A non-EU diploma has to be recognised under the procedure of the country where you want to work: in Poland that means nostrification or the LEW or LDEW exam, in the USA the USMLE, and in Dubai a DHA licence. It is a longer road, so it is worth knowing it before you leave.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start preparing?

Ideally at the start of your final year of secondary school. Admission deadlines abroad vary, and some universities close applications earlier than you might expect.

Do I need to speak the language of the country?

Not always. Many universities teach medicine in English, but then you usually have to prove your English. The local language helps anyway, because that is what patients speak during clinical classes.

How much does it cost to study medicine abroad?

It depends on the country and the university: tuition and living costs can differ several times over. During the consultation we put together a cost summary for the universities you are considering.

Can I work in another country after studying abroad?

Yes, but the route depends on where the university is. An EU diploma that meets the directive is recognised automatically across the EU, while a non-EU diploma has to go through the recognition procedure of the country where you want to work. We explain this before you choose.

Do you guarantee admission?

No. Only the university decides who gets in. We help you prepare well, choose realistic options and not miss anything.

Do you help with transferring from another university?

Yes. We check whether the university accepts transfer students, which completed courses may be recognised and what documents you need.

Guides on exams and working as a doctor abroad

MedMigrant is not a university or a university representative. Admission is decided solely by the university, and diploma recognition and the licence to practise by the relevant authorities and professional bodies. Admission rules change, so we always check them on the university’s website before you apply.
