The sources behind our question explanations

Every exam has its own awarding body, scope and reading. For each programme we have gathered the official book list or exam outline, plus the guidelines we check our explanations against. Everything links back to the source.

How an explanation is made

  1. 1

The question and the correct answer

We start with the question and the answer that needs explaining.

  2. 2

    Checking the sources

We check the answer against the guidelines, regulations and reading named for the exam.

  3. 3

    Explained in our own words

We write a short explanation of why this answer is right and the others are not. No copying of anyone else’s text.

  4. 4

    Source at the end

Each explanation ends with its source, so you can check it yourself.

Our principles

  • Our own explanations

We write every explanation ourselves. We take facts from books and guidelines and cite them; a word-for-word quote is rare and never longer than one sentence.

  • The official key comes first

For LEK and LDEK the CEM key applies. If newer guidelines say otherwise, we add a dated note to the explanation.

  • Kept up to date

Guidelines change, so every list shows when it was last updated, and you can report any question that looks out of date.

Spotted something out of date?

Report it on the question or write to us. We check every report against the sources and fix the explanation.
